The distribution of the sample corresponded to the national distribution of the population. Each head of the household was asked questions about socioeconomic factors and diseases affecting members of the household. The responses were then coded in ICD-10 by physicians who supervised each household visit. Additional modules on typical food consumption, physical activity, and well-being (the SF-36 questionnaire) were answered by household members age 35-70. Measurements of individuals height, weight, and blood pressure were taken, as well as blood samples to measure glucose, cholesterol, and triglycerides.
