Summary 

In the pilot phase of this program, SAVVY data were collected from four provinces: Central, Luapula, Lusaka, and Southern. After a baseline census identified deaths that occurred in 2009 and 2010, verbal autopsies were performed. Interviewers used a modified WHO VA questionnaire, and physicians coded causes of death, using ICD-10 guidelines. A total of 1,056 deaths were analyzed in this study.
