Summary

The Global Adult Tobacco Survey (GATS) is a household survey that collects data on non-institutionalized men and women ages 15 years and older using a standardized methodology for constructing the sample frame, selecting households, and processing data. The 2016-2017 India GATS completed 74,037 individual interviews.

The GATS is designed to produce national and sub-national estimates on tobacco use. The India GATS provides information on tobacco use, cessation, second-hand smoke, tobacco expenditures, and knowledge, attitudes, and perceptions towards tobacco. The survey also covers basic sociodemographic characteristics.
