Summary 

The Health and Aging in Africa Longitudinal Study of an INDEPTH Community in South Africa (HAALSI) surveys older adults in rural South Africa. Information is collected on health, aging, physical and cognitive function, and socio-demographic details. Data was also collected with anthropometric measurements and blood tests.

For the Baseline survey, the 2013 Census was used as a sampling frame and a total of 6,281 women and men were selected. Eligible participants were adults ages 40 and above who were permanently living in the Mpumalanga province during the 12 months prior to the 2013 Census.
