Spatial Distribution of Plasmodium Falciparum Malaria Endemicity Map 2010

This map of estimated levels of Plasmodium falciparum malaria endemicity is an update to the 2007 map. The estimates come from a variety of sources including parasite rate surveys since 1985 and environmental covariates such as temperature, rainfall, land cover, and urban or rural status.

The variable mapped in the 2010 map is the age-standardized Plasmodium falciparum parasite rate. This is the estimated proportion of 2-8 year olds in the general population infected with the parasite at any time. This number is then averaged over the 12 months in 2010.
