Summary 

The Australia National Health Survey 2001 collected data on the health status of the population, use of health services, and lifestyle risk factors. Information on long-term conditions was self-reported; the study focused primarily on asthma, cancer, diabetes, and heart and circulatory conditions. Questions on a number of lifestyle behaviors covered smoking, alcohol consumption, exercise, obesity, and dietary habits. The sample size was 19,400 households from all states and territories, across all age groups. Out of 17,918 households, 26,863 people were successfully interviewed.
