The vital statistics system in Japan monitors vital events in the country occurring during the calendar year among persons of Japanese nationality. Information is collected through five separate forms for live births, deaths, fetal deaths, marriages, and divorces. The live birth form records information including date of birth, birth weight, location of delivery, geographic location of birth, and parents' marital status, ages, and occupations.
