The Fertility and Family Surveys (FFS) were conducted in 23 United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) Region countries from 1989 to 1999. The template survey includes 10 core and 4 optional modules. Topics include household characteristics, partnerships, fertility, and use of contraception. Each country developed a unique questionnaire derived from the standardized template. Sampling and data collection varied across the participating countries. The Sweden FFS consisted of 5 female and 3 male cohorts. Stratified random sampling was used with individuals as sampling units. A total of 4,229 women and 2,177 men were included in the sample, and a total of 3,318 women and 1,666 men were interviewed. To complete the FFS Standard Recode File, data was complied from FFS interviews, other survey data and registry data.
