The survey used the 1979 Population Census as a sampling frame. The data provides national estimates for both urban and rural areas separately, as well as for 32 provinces, 6 rural provinces and 6 major cities, and metropolitan areas and provincial towns nationally. Information was collected with a household questionnaire that collected basic demograhic information on members of the household and included modules focusing on children under five, children 5-17 years old, and ever-married women.
