Summary 

The 2005 National Risk and Vulnerability Assessment (NRVA) studied the needs and vulnerabilities of urban, rural and nomadic populations (Kuchi) in all 34 provinces of Afghanistan. Unlike the 2003 NRVA, this survey used population-based sampling and the random start method. It also utilized female enumerators for the first time. Questionnaires were administered at the shura and household level (except for market data collected at the district level). The survey collected data from 30,822 households. Topics included household consumption of food and other items, agricultural activities, maternal and child health, and coping strategies to shocks, such as natural disasters.
