Australia Child and Adolescent Survey of Mental Health and Wellbeing 2013-2014

The purpose of this survey was to assess mental health disorders in children, to discern the impact of such disorders, to gauge the use of mental health services used, and the presence of education in the access to these services.

The data were collected through in-person interviews of parents and caregivers and computer-assisted self-reported questionnaires for children ages 11 through 17 years old. The sample size was 6,310 parents or caregivers and 2,967 children aged 11 through 17 years who received permission from caregivers to complete their own questionnaire.

The parent interview covered the topics of the family environment, demographics, use of health services, the child's wellbeing, and parental wellbeing. The youth questionnaire covered the topics of school, family environment, self-esteem, technology, and emotional wellbeing. Children 13 years of age and older were also asked questions about risky behaviors.
