Summary 

Part of phase 5 of the DHS series, the sample design of the 2008 Bolivia Demographic and Health Survey was nationally representative, representative of the departmental divisions of the country, and representative of both urban and rural areas separtely. The sample included 19,564 households out of which 16,939 women aged 15-49 and 6,054 men aged 15-64 were surveyed. The survey used three questionnaires:

  • A household questionnaire included topics such as education, housing characteristics, vaccination of children under 5 years old, domestic violence, and health status and conditions.
  • An individual women's questionnaire collected information on topics such as vaccincation of children, family planning, birth history, and domestic violence.
  • An indiviudal men's questionnaire covered topics such as sexual activity, contraceptive use, and participation in child health care.
