DSP covers 161 counties and districts in 31 provinces of China. Since 2004, this surveillance has been conducted every three years. Participants were chosen using a multi-stage stratified clustering sample method. Household and individual questionnaires collected information on behavioral risk factors (such as diet, physical activity, tobacco and alcohol use) and self-reported chronic disease.
