The Disease Surveillance Points (DSP) 1992 contains mortality and morbidity data for China. The data are broken down by age, sex, and cause of death (with ICD-9 codes), and tabulations are also divided into urban and rural categories. Surveillance occured at 145 voluntary sites in urban and rural areas, and 136 of them provided monthly reports for vital statistics. In 1992, the DSP covered a population of 9,999,234 people. In total, 54,345 deaths were reported at validated sites. When adjusted for underreporting, the death rate was 624.16 per 100,000 people. The three leading causes of death were cardiovascular disease, respiratory disease and cancer.
