Summary 

The WHO Study on Global AGEing and Adult Health (SAGE) is a longitudinal survey that focuses on the health of adults 50 years or older and also targets a smaller group of adults ages 18-49 for comparison. The survey contains data on demographics, health status, chronic health conditions, risk factors, disabilities, and quality of life. Anthropometric measurements taken include height, weight, and waist and hip circumference. Other measures include blood pressure, cognition tests, physical tests for stamina and strength, a lung function test with spirometry, and blood samples taken from consenting individuals.

The data was collected through household and individual questionnaires administered in eight provinces. The Chinese survey began in 2007 and represents the first round of SAGE.  The sample size was 9,600 households, including 8,000 households with respondents 50 years or older and 1,600 households with respondents ages 18 to 49 years.
