This data collection was part of the Sample Registration System (SRS) half-yearly survey. This survey collected information through in-person interviews in the homes of people living in rural and urban areas in all states and territories. The sample size was 128,154 rural households and 50,166 urban households. The main themes of the questionnaire were household member characteristics and a detailed fertility history of the ever-married women living in the household.
