Summary

The purpose of the India Survey on Musculoskeletal Conditions was to study how much musculoskeletal conditions were affecting the community, focusing specifically on osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and spinal disorders. Participants were screened with questionnaires to assess pain, mobility, and deformity. Those that tested positive were assessed with clinical evaluations and medical tests. The assessment tools included modified CRD Pune versions of the Health Assessment Questionnaire (HAQ) and WOMAC index, and the OSWESTRY Disability Questionnaire. Participants were diagnosed, and provided with treatment, education, and referrals when applicable. The sample size was approximately 30,000 adults over age 18 from urban and rural areas in Delhi, Dibrugarh, and Jodhpur. A total of 32,083 individuals were screened.
