The survey utilized a stratified random sampling method and it collected written questionnaires from Japanese households. The results are based on over 228,000 responses to the household/health questionnaire, over 26,000 responses to the income questionnaire, and almost 6,000 responses to the long-term care questionnaire. Tabulations on income are based on the 2009 calendar year. The CSLC began in 1986. A full-scale survey is conducted every three years (including 2010) and a smaller scale survey is conducted during interim years. The larger survey incorporates questions about health, household savings, and nursing care. This report includes tabulations on self-reported outpatient rates by sex, disease, and 10-year age groups.
