Summary

The Violence Against Children Study (VACS) is a global effort to collect data on violence against children. The study monitors the prevalence of domestic violence, sexual violence, emotional violence, and exploitation. VACS aims to inform prevention efforts, policy regarding child safety, and the utilization of health services.

The 2018-2019 VACS in Kenya was the first, national effort to document violence against children. Data were collected through a household survey. The study canvassed 1,344 females and 788 males between the ages of 13 to 24 years. The study split the sample into two age groups: participants 18 to 24 years and participants 13 to 17. The older group were canvassed for experiences of violent acts prior to age 18. The younger group were asked to recount experiences that had occurred in the 12 months preceding the survey.
