A sample size of approximately 9,000 rural households and 3,000 urban households were selected to participate in a survey that collected data on births, deaths and household facilities. A sub-sample of 70 households were also chosen; women ages 15-49 were interviewed on marriage, fertility, birth history, last pregnancy, exposure to birth and family size attitudes, and men ages 20-54 were interviewed on marriage and family size attitudes.
