Summary

Censuses provide population numbers, household or family size and composition, and information on sex and age distribution. They often include other demographic, economic and health-related topics as well. The 1970 Mexico de jure census collected data through direct enumeration on the subjects of housing, household demographics, employment for those 12 and older, education, migration, and fertility for women 12 and older. Questions about daily food intake and footwear were also included. The census day was January 28, 1970.

A 1% sample of dwellings from the census (483,405 individuals) is available through IPUMS International at the University of Minnesota. Dwellings, group quarters, and vacant units are not identified in the sample. The microdata sample was constructed by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography from a sample of enumeration forms. Refer to the IPUMS website for guidelines on citing database versions.
