NavGeneral InfoEmail Print Geography Nigeria (NGA) Coverage type Country Time period covered 11/1991 - 12/1991 Data type Census: InterviewNationally representative Summary This census conducted in Nigeria in 1991 left out questions on ethnicity and religion in order to improve the accuracy and response to the census. Both a long form and a short form were used, the long form used as part of a post-enumeration survey (PES) to verify the accuracy of the census and to gather additional data. The PES covered a 5% sample of the enumeration areas. In addition to the short form, the long form included education, employment, age at first marriage, migration, births and deaths in the last 12 months, and children ever born and children still alive. The short form covered literacy, disability, marital status, work status and occupations. An analytical report was published for this census, and some libraries may be able to procure this report through the interlibrary loan system. The report provides infant and child mortality rates, death rates, fertility rates and life tables. Many tabulations are by age-group and sex, but the age-groups used vary.
