Summary

This survey started in 1970 covering 3 cities and is conducted every five years; the current report covers every administrative region in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.  Households are surveyed on topics of income, spending patterns, and housing conditions. The expenditure questions cover spending on food and drink, clothing, fuels, water, household appliances, medical care, transportation and communications, leisure, education, and miscellaneous goods and services.  Statistical tables display average monthly expenditures of the different major expenditure groups by region.  The tables covering relative distribution of average monthly expenditure are broken down by the head of household's nationality, age, education status, and income category.  Primary sampling is based on the framework of the Saudi Arabia Population and Housing Census 1992, excluding public housing areas and the desert. The sample size is 11,016 households.
