Children were surveyed with mothers or primary caretakers acting as principal informational sources during interviews. Interviews covered topics such as dietary patterns, household characteristics, feeding practices, and episodes of diarrhea. Child anthropometric measurements were taken and in the Moyamba District, blood tests were conducted to detect parasites and to measure hemoglobin levels. Districts were randomly chosen from each health province. 1,809 children in urban areas and 2,615 children in rural areas were selected. A total of 4,424 children were sampled. A preliminary report may be available through library systems.
