Data is compiled annually by staff of the Medical Statistics Unit (MSU), a sector of the Ministry of Health. Morbidity and mortality data are collected quarterly from all government hospitals, with the exception of Primary Health Care Units and Maternity Homes, and are classified under ICD-10. Individual patients with repeat visits, hospital transfers, or multiple admissions for the same disease are reflected in the morbidity data as additional cases. Outpatient data are not routinely collected or reported in the IMMR. For 2011, there were 5,568,434 live discharges and 42,515 deaths recorded in government hospitals for the IMMR.
