In order to assess the national burden, researchers utilized methods developed by the WHO and the World Bank for the Global Burden of Disease Study. The Thai Burden of Disease Study used population data from censuses and household deaths data from the Survey of Population Change 1995-1996. It also included the results of a verbal autopsy study that occurred in 15 provinces from 1998 to 1999.
