Summary 

The Adult Dental Health Survey (ADHS) is conducted every ten years. The geographical coverage provides estimates for all of the UK. The questionnaires are directed to adults (16 years and older). Follow-up dental exams are conducted by National Health Service dentists in some survey participants' homes. There were approximately 6,204 computer-aided interviews and 3,187 clinical assessments conducted. (Participants with complete tooth loss were excluded from the physical examination.) The weighted sample size was 4,110 interviews and 2,598 examinations. The main topics covered in the interview are dental experiences, attitudes, knowledge, care, and health practices. The physical examination portion of the survey assesses the conditon of the natural teeth and supporting tissues and the use of prosthetics.
