Summary

The 2008 Zambia Malaria Indicator Survey (MIS) was the second survey of its kind in Zambia since the launch of the National Malaria Strategic Plan (NMSP) 2006-2010. The objective of the survey was to evaluate the progress towards goals set in the NMSP.

A nationally representative two-stage cluster sample of 4,525 households surveyed from 181 standard enumeration areas (SEAs) was used. The survey is representative at the national, urban and rural, and district level for 10 specific Roll Back Malaria sentinel districts.

Personal digital assistants (PDAs) were used to administer the standardized questionnaires. Two questionnaires were used, one for households and one for women. Both malaria parasite and anemia testing were done for children under the age of six years.
