The Adolfo Lutz Institute is an accredited as a National Laboratory of Public Health and Reference Laboratory Macroregional the Brazilian Ministry of Health. The Institutes produces research in the areas of medicine and pathology. The Institute also participates in epidemiological surveillance, dissemination of scientific research, technical standard development, and public health promotion.
The institute was originally named The Bacteriological Institute of São Paulo, but was renamed for epidemiologist and first director Adolfo Lutz after his death.
